icotile is a logic puzzle game 🧩 about placing icons in a grid according to some row and column constraints, like:

But you'll need to stay sharp! 'Cause respecting those row/columns rules won't always be obvious: sometimes, you'll need to think about what the icons represent, but other times you'll have to look at the icon names themselves to find the link, or think about which thing could be contained by another...

The game currently contains 875 short puzzles of varying difficulties (depending on the size of the grid to fill and the rules) ⭐

How to play

In icotile, your goal is to fill a grid with icons to match the row & column constraints. Each row and each column imposes a link type 🔗: every icon in the line needs to match this link type with the other icons in the same line.

For example, here:

• "biscuit"/"bicycle" (row 1) share a prefix
• "donut"/"apple" (row 2) share a category
• "biscuit"/"donut" (column 1) share a category
• "bicycle"/"apple" (column 2) share a suffix

There are 6 possible link types:

• Category: things of the same group (e.g. 'food'), like 🍎 /🍖
• Cause/Effect: causes/is caused by the other one, like 💣 /💥
• Part/Whole: includes/is included in the other one, like ⛈️ and ⚡
• Opposite: are some contrasting things, like 🔥 / 💧 or ☀️ /🌙
• Prefix: share the same 2 first letters, like 🚗 (car) and 🐱 (cat)
• Suffix: share the same 2 last letters, like ⚠️ (warning) and 💍 (ring)

For the Prefix and Suffix types, all icons in the row/column need to share the same value. For the 4 other link types, neighbour icons need to have a valid link of this type.
